During the last Code Culture Club I wanted to introduce to the team Joel Nazar from Southwark Foodbank.

Southwark Foodbank provides emergency food for local people in crisis.

GIVING A HAND TO SOUTHWARK FOODBANKThey work with front-line professionals such as schools, social services and GP's who refer Southwark residents in-need for assistance. They give them food at a desperate time. Their project is based only a few minutes away from our new office.

Contrary to popular belief, only 4% of people who use our foodbank are homeless. Many of their service users are educated, employed neighbors who struggle to meet the financial demands of living in London. After their essential bills are paid, they can barely afford the cost of a healthy diet.

With the continued changes in the economy the demand on Foodbank service grows, and at present they need more support to provide an efficient, effective and accountable service.

With an estimated 60% decrease in funding expected over the next few years, Joel and the Southwark Foodbank asked Code for help…. And we said yes!

We organised a fundraising day where we had the possibility to help Southwark Foodbank giving our lunch money to the charity.

The company doubled the amount of money raised.

We are already planning to do it again, bringing with us others agencies from Bankside

Thanks you all for your participation!
